  • 4 medium strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 eggs eggs for custard
  • 1/2 cup milk whole or 2%
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter for frying

Method
 

  1. Slice the bread into 1-inch thick pieces and set aside.
  2. Hull and thinly slice the strawberries, then set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and sugar until well combined and slightly frothy.
  4. Spread a generous layer of softened cream cheese onto a slice of bread, then layer some strawberries on top and cover with another bread slice to make a sandwich.
  5. Dip the stuffed bread sandwiches into the custard mixture, ensuring each side is fully coated and the bread soaks up some of the mixture.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add butter, allowing it to melt and sizzle.
  7. Place the dipped French toast into the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crispy.
  8. Carefully flip the toast with a spatula and cook the other side until similarly golden and cooked through.
  9. Remove the cooked French toast from the skillet and place on a plate. Repeat with remaining slices.
  10. Dust the finished French toast with powdered sugar and garnish with extra strawberries if desired.
